Vinicius Junior stole the show as Brazil awakened in the Copa America with a statement 4-1 victory over Paraguay. Vinicius had the opportunity to secure a hat trick, as Brazil drew a second half penalty, but the Balon D’or front-runner allowed Paqueta to have another go from the spot despite missing earlier in the game. Brazil were rarely tested by Paraguay and are beginning to find their groove. The next match vs Colombia will be a true test.
Eder Militao—6: Had relatively little to do defensively as Paraguay barely threatened. Looked confident in possession and attempted the over the top ball to Vinicius on a couple of occasions.
Rodrygo—5: Never really got going in this match. Played again as the central focal point, or false 9 / center forward role but struggled to get quality touches. Did manage 3 key passes despite his limited involvement.
Vinicius Junior—9: Could this be the before and after performance for Vinicius Junior and Brazil? All the criticism that has Vini’s way over recent weeks fueled this performance: 2 goals, 7 completed dribbles - including a successful rainbow flick, 2 key passes, and a relentless attitude. This was the Vinicius of Real Madrid, the best player in the world. His match even included plenty of trash talking with the opposition players, a now hallmark of Vini’s game.
