Nacho: “The decision to leave Real Madrid is the toughest of my life”
Nacho’s first conference since leaving Real Madrid.
Nacho Fernandez left Real Madrid to join Saudi Arabia side Al Qadsiah recently, and has finally talked in a press conference for the first time since the announcement. He talked about his decision to leave Real Madrid, calling it the ‘toughest of his life’. He said: “The decision to leave Real Madrid is the toughest of my life. I told the club many months ago. I wanted a new experience. I need a new experience. Real Madrid is the best thing that happened in my life. It ended in the best possible way.”
Nacho’s doubts last season
“I had doubts about staying also at the end of last season, then I stayed to be the captain and it’s been a correct decision. I have nothing left to win at Real Madrid.”
A farewell
I would have liked a farewell like Toni Kroos but I had nothing signed with my new club yet. When Kroos said goodbye, I already knew I was going to leave. I would have loved to say goodbye to the Bernabéu like Kroos had, but I don’t need that farewell to know what this club and its fans want from me.
“I will talk to the club. We will do something at Valdebebas.”
Real Madrid waited for him to sign a contract
“Real Madrid waited for me until the end, they waited until I had signed with my new club. I will be forever grateful for everything. I don’t need a farewell to know Madridistas love me. “I spent my life fighting to be a starter at Real Madrid, but I’m very happy with my career; I’m the happiest. This has been the season of my life.

Not enough Spanish players at Real Madrid
“I would love 11 academy players to always play, but this is Real Madrid; the exigency is maximum.”
The move to Saudi Arabia
“I didn’t want to face Real Madrid. This has always been clear to me. Now, I need to live somewhere different with my family. I’m very happy. The league in Saudi Arabia was unknown years ago. Now, many good players are going there.”
